Crystal LaVaughn Thompson, 50, of Mabank, Texas, passed away on September 30, 2024. She was born on November 23, 1973 in Dallas, Texas. Crystal was known for her infectious laughter and kind heart. She had a passion for helping others and always went out of her way to lend a helping hand. Crystal would spend her free time mentoring at shelters dedicated for women affected by domestic violence. When she wasn't mentoring, she was constantly keeping a lookout for anything the shelter, women and children needed. Something that she was known for was her "special coffee time" which consisted of her busting out her stash of Hawaiian coffee (whom she received from her dear friend, John Cantrell) for ladies (and ladies only!) who were at rock bottom in their lives. As she would say, "There isn't anything a good cup of coffee and a hug couldn't fix."
Crystal had a love for music, baking, and spending time her loved ones, and of course her pooches. Her warm smile and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Crystal touched many lives with minimal effort, to taste something she baked was to feel the love she had to give. Anyone who was fortunate enough to watch her in the kitchen whipping up a batch of her famous cheesecake brownie bites, or a lucky someone's wedding cake can tell you she poured her soul into everything she created with her gentle, loving hands.
Crystal is preceded in death by her stepfather Charlie Rogers and daughter Alexis LaVaughn Bump. She is survived by her mother Cheryl Rogers, father Jerry Wayne Shopher, and stepmother Connie Shopher. She leaves behind her sister Veronica Amos, stepsister Christina Darby, stepbrother Chuck Wolken, and stepbrother Jason Wolken. Her son Jerry Wayne Decker, daughters Alexis Stewart and Rebecca Sims, grandson David Sims, niece Cameron Hill, cousins Amber Nobles, Jasmine Nobles, Guya Nobles, Huey Nobles- a special mention for cousin Heather Hussey as Crystal always claimed she was more of a sister than a cousin to her. Her Aunts Sondra Young, Sandra Hildreth, and Carole Campbell. Crystal also leaves behind her two beloved dogs, Tank and Chesty, and her husband, Glenn Thompson Jr.
A special mention to her closest friend and sober sister, Amber Walker for reminding her of her "why". To her sobriety sponsor, Sally Chapman, thank you for giving Crystal almost seven years of sponsorship, some battles were lost but the war was won through your diligence of her working the program, and giving her the strength to maintain her sobriety.
They say you die twice in your lifetime: once when you stop breathing and a second time, when somebody says your name for the last time. Thanks to the love she has given, the love that is reciprocated will keep her, and her name alive forever.
May she rest in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, authenticity, and a love for everything sweet.
A Celebration of Life will be 3:30 PM, Sunday October 13, 2024 at Ray Of Hope, 715 S. Seven Points Drive, Seven Points, TX. Please bring finger food.
