Irvin Harold "Butch" Marx Jr., 70, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on April 10, 2023, after a courageous battle with several cancers and pulmonary disease at UT Southwestern William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital surrounded by his family.
Butch was born June 21, 1952, in Viroqua, Wisconsin to Irvin Herman Marx Sr. and Jeanette Lois Jacobson Marx. He attended Kirkwood Community College studying architectural drafting. He served in the U.S. Army for thirteen years as a sergeant in Special Forces and Vietnam, earning his black belt under Chuck Norris. He received a civil engineering degree while in the service.
Butch moved to Texas in 1994. He met the love of his life, Kathleen, in 1998. They were married on Christmas Day the same year. They are members of Stonebriar Community Church. Butch was a kind and thoughtful soul and will be missed by the many lives he touched. He loved his puppies, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, watching John Wayne movies, playing card games with family and friends and musicals. Butch and Kathleen enjoyed their many friends in The Louve neighborhood which was like family to them, cherishing the many friendships maintained over the years. He was also known as the Executive Marx Family Reunion Organizer. His family hopes he is riding his dream Harley through the heavenly golden gates with a side car full of the puppies who passed before him (Harley D, Penny, Ian and Kelsie).
Butch is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Kathleen, his mother Jeanette (Loras) Demmer, sisters Susan (Ronnie) Thole, Judy (Lonnie) Fry, Janie Moriarity (Gary Chapman), Jennifer (Kent) Thoe, stepbrothers Kevin (Doris) Demmer and Dan Demmer, brother-in-law Ronnie (Glenda) Penny, sister-in-law Millie Penny, numerous nieces and nephews, special friends Brian Mathis and Stephanie Holowak, and his fur babies Buddy and Chloe.
He is preceded in death by his father Irvin Herman Marx Sr., his brothers Joseph Marx (in infancy) and David Bryan Marx, mother-in-law Theda Brashear, and brother-in-law James Ray Penny.
Visitation will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home, 403 E. Royall Blvd., Malakoff, TX. The Service will be at 12:00 PM at the funeral home with Chaplain Brian Anderson officiating.
A memorial service will be held in Iowa at a later date.
