March 14, 2014 another angel got his wings. Lonnie Joe Slocum age 56 of Huntington, TX entered into heavens gates after a courageous seven year battle with cancer. Lonnie was born August 29, 1957 in Grand Prairie, TX. He worked as an independent distributor for Borden's Milk Company for 35 years. He was an avid hunter. He loved his kids and grandbabies and enjoyed teaching them how to hunt, watching them play sports and dance. His heart beamed with joy as each of his grandsons got their first deer and as he watched his granddaughter dance. He is survived by his wife of 20 years Rhonda Slocum, daughter Misty and husband Jason Harris, son Marc and wife Kendall Slocum, daughter Dawn and husband Duane Baxter, Mother Helen Huckabee, brother Dan Huckabee, mother-in-law Linda Mingus and special friends Richard and Kelly Gravelle. Lonnie's legacy continues with his grandbabies: Colter Baxter and wife Ericka, Arielle Martin, Tyler Harris, Austin Harris, Kaden Slocum and great-grandbaby Leah Baxter. Lonnie is preceded in death by daughter Heather Paige Slocum, brother Ron Huckabee and father Kenneth Huckabee. Pallbearers will be his fellow milkmen Dan Leatherman, Jerry Phillips, Alva Lynn, David Taylor, Dante McDougald, Matthew Leonard, Glen Matthews and Otta Smith. Service will be Sunday March 16 2:00 pm at Huntington First Baptist Church with Bro. Gene Hazell officiating. Interment will follow at Jonesville Cemetery Huntington.
