~~Funeral services for Tom Dorman Benton, 100 of Athens are scheduled for 10:30 AM Saturday August 12, 2017 at Tool Baptist Church with Matt Faircloth officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 PM at Clover Hill Cemetery, Quitman with Ed Brennan officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM Friday evening at Huckabee-Tomlinson Funeral Home in Seven Points.
Mr. Benton was born September 21, 1916 in the Coke Community in Wood County, TX to John David and Dixie Ada Butler Benton. He was a manufacturing engineer for LTV, served in the US Army in World War II and a member of First Baptist Church in Tool. Mr. Benton was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Matilda Murray Benton; granddaughter Jill Suzanne Cardwell; one brother and three sisters.
Survivors include two daughters: Judy and Weldon McAdams, Amarillo; Janet Cardwell and Chester Williamson, Kilmarnock, VA; two sisters: Peggy Lunn, Ft. Worth and Johnnie French, Carrollton; one grandson Mark Cardwell and Jennifer, Richmond, VA; one great granddaughter; Suzie Cardwell and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted under the direction of Lowe Funeral Home of Quitman.
