Obituary of Doris Lucille Johnston

Doris Lucille Johnston Doris was born January 15, 1923 to Thomas Allen and Nettie Stutts in Heflin, LA. They resided in Sibley, LA where Thomas was an oil field worker. Doris was raised with her siblings in Rural Shade, Tx where her daddy was a share cropper. All of the family worked in the cotton fields and helped out on the farm. Doris loved her upbringing and told many happy stories. She, being the oldest girl, helped with her younger siblings. Once, she told of a day when her Moma asked her to get to churning. Doris replied that she could not because she was holding baby Travis. Her Moma’s reply was “If you are going to be a woman, you will have to learn to churn, hold a baby and do much more at the same time.” Doris loved to tell those she met that she was a “country gal”. Doris left the farm for the big city of Dallas where she was a grocery checker for Kroger. She told of taking a bus to work and window shopping the downtown Neiman-Marcus. She loved fashion and make-up. She enjoyed her time in the city and many family members came to stay with her. She came back to the country to marry the love of her life. Doris married Clyde Johnston, a confirmed Batcheler and cattleman. She once again loved her life as a “country gal”. She, alongside of her husband on their ranch near Malakoff, fed cows, fixed fence, gathered firewood and cooked for all who came to visit. Even though she lost Clyde to death more than 30 years ago, she often told of her love for him and the fun they shared. Doris loved her Jesus and witnessed to all around her. Doris loved her Moma, her family, each and every one equally. She always had something nice to say about everyone she met. She loved BIG! Doris loved fun. Doris was loud. She could make you laugh and could tell stories that would make you cry. And Doris could make you blush. And she had lots of advice, given with love. Doris left this world to go to her heavenly home on February 11, 2020. Doris was 97 years old. She is preceded in death by her husband; Clyde Johnston, brother; Thomas Stutts, brother; Wesley Stutts, brother; Clarence Stutts, brother; Marvin Stutts, and brother Chester Stutts.
